A NATIONAL MOVEMENT FOR EARLY SUPPORT

SUPPORT SHOULDN’T WAIT FOR DIAGNOSIS

People may have to wait for an autism or ADHD assessment. They should not have to wait for support.

We are building a national, non-party-political movement for needs-led mental-health and wellbeing support before, during and after assessment. Early intervention works. Early intervention is key.

Founded by LilyAnne’s Wellbeing. Led by lived experience.

THE CAMPAIGN ASK

No one should be denied support while waiting for diagnosis.

Reducing assessment waiting times matters. But waiting better matters too. People should be able to access appropriate, needs-led support based on what they are experiencing—not only after a diagnostic decision.

We are not asking charities to diagnose. We are asking government, NHS bodies and local systems to ensure mental-health, wellbeing and community support is available before, during and after autism and ADHD assessment.

Support before crisis

Early help can protect wellbeing, reduce isolation and prevent needs from becoming more severe.

Need, not paperwork

Mental-health and wellbeing needs should be recognised separately from diagnostic status.

Led by lived experience

Policy and services should be designed with autistic people, people with ADHD and those who know what waiting feels like.

OUR NATIONAL POLICY PROPOSAL

The Waiting Well Guarantee

At the point of referral, everyone waiting for an autism or ADHD assessment should receive a clear support offer. The guarantee is built on five principles: no diagnosis required for basic wellbeing support; a Waiting Well offer for every person referred; mental-health needs considered separately from diagnostic status; community and voluntary organisations included in pathways; and services designed with lived experience.

01 · ACCESS

Support from the start

People receive information and routes to appropriate support when referred—not years later.

BACK THE PRINCIPLE

02 · PREVENTION

Early intervention is key

Support should respond before distress, burnout, loneliness or everyday pressures become a crisis.

03 · PARTNERSHIP

A national pathway

Government, NHS bodies, communities and charities should work together around need.

WORK WITH US

PHASE ONE · BUILDING THE MOVEMENT

Listen. Build evidence. Take the case for change to government.

1

Listen nationally

Invite people awaiting or reflecting on assessment to share what support they received, what was missing and what would have helped.

2

Build the coalition

Bring together lived-experience voices, charities, professionals, researchers and parliamentarians around the principle.

3

Take the case to Westminster

Turn the evidence into a national policy proposal, parliamentary engagement and a public letter delivered to Downing Street.
